Mr
Zbigniew Wilimowski graduated from London University
- PUC (Civil Engineering Department) in 1953. His professional
career extends from his graduation year to the present time
(2006). He has world-wide experience in his field of specialisation
in the UK as well as abroad. In 1955 he joined W.S. Atkins
Consulting Engineers and worked as a designer in the reinforced
concrete construction. In 1960 he began working Norman & Dawbarn (N&D)
Architects and Consulting Engineers working there until his
retirement. He continued to work as an independent consultant.

With Norman & Dawbarn in Dar es Salaam in Tanzania ( Africa
) on projects financed by the World Bank such as: the University
of Dar es Salaam , water supply Ruvu River and many other educational
and civil engineering projects.

- Prior to his appointment in Africa he have carried out many structural
engineering projects in the London Office, such as: the BBC White
City head office, Imperial College in South Kensington, amongst others.
- In
1972 Mr Wilimowski and his family returned from Africa to London
and he was nominated associate director of Norman & Dawbarn.
He continued to work on the Imperial College project and placed
the Collcutt Tower now known as Queen’s Tower on new foundation.
It is still standing and will remain in the future development
of the site.
- In
1977 Mr Wilimowski was delegated as a Manager of the Norman & Dawburn
office in Addis Ababa Ethiopia and again worked on projects
for the World Bank , EEC and FAO. Two main projects were the
University of Addis Ababa and the ILRI (International Lifestock
Research Centre of Africa), as well as a Hospitals for EEC.
- In 1983 he returned
to London and was delegated to work in the N&D Guildford
Office.
In 1974 he was awarded the Fellowship of the Institution of Structural
Engineers and the degree of Master of Science by the Polish University
Abroad (headquartered in London). In 1983 he become a member of the
Institute of Civil Engineers and in 1985 was selected as a member
of the UK Council of Engineering Institutions. In 1988 returned again
to London from Africa, as an associate director of engineering for
N&D projects.
Due to his vast experience & expertise he still
continues to work as an independent consultant on projects for private
customers and for medium-sized enterprises.
He also advises young immigrants/graduates
from Poland on their professional carrier prospects in Great Britain
in languages: English and Polish. It is also worth to point out
that in Poland engineering education is completed with a final examination.
In the UK it is only half way. Full engineering and professional
title is received upon completion of practical experience and title
of Fellow o Engineering from an Engineering Institution. |
